IIT JEE 2010 – How to prepare in the last months…?

IIT JEE 2010 is coming closer and closer as the days are passing by. The one question in the minds of the students is how to prepare now in the closing moments. Lets see what you can do now in the closing moments.

First lets see how to close preparations of physics. As of now you would have understood that Physics is all about concepts rather than mugging up. If you have the right concepts physics is a piece of cake. In my terms a real rank decider. If you can apply the right concepts at the right time you are certainly a winner.

My teacher always said that no one can visualize physics. If you have to solve a mechanics problem don’t visualize it. Just look at the number of variables and the number of equations. That will give you a clear cut idea of how to proceed further. If the number of variables is equal to the number of equations you have hit the right spot.

This idea will not only work with mechanics but with any problem in physics. For example in electrostatics, gravitation, and nuclear physics everywhere this concept can be put to use with utmost ease. This is the best way to go as you can never visualize gravitation or atoms.

As for chemistry it is another rank deciding subject. Believe or not the chemistry paper will be such that you can score as much you can without compromising with time. So simple is the paper that it is difficult to judge which section to attempt first.

Now make this very clear that whenever you are attempting the chemistry paper never attempt the multiple choice questions first. Always start with simple one correct answer questions. Just make sure that you don’t waste time confusing in multiple choice questions. Doing this will only introduce panic into the equation.

So try to make sure you attempt the minimum cut off that you anticipate before jumping to the multiple choice. Subjective questions are easy most of the time. Have a quick look at them then proceed.

Practice all this with sample papers. Try to build confidence that you can solve any paper within the stipulated time. Dinesh objective chemistry will be a big help for practice.

And in the last few days try to revise organic and inorganic as well as possible. They will be the backbone of your marks in chemistry. Don’t ignore organic as it can give you a 100% strike rate.

As far as maths is concerned practice is everything. If you don’t practice you are as good as zero. So try to solve as many sample papers as possible. Try to involve a little bit of geometry. For example coordinate geometry questions may seem tough if you solve it with equations, but it is a piece of cake with geometry.

Try to look at the symmetry wherever you can. The beauty of mathematics lies in the symmetry. Try to solve the questions with special cases and eliminate the wrong answers. This way even if you are not able to solve the question you can make much accurate guess.

Calculus is the backbone of mathematics. Over and over the years calculus has been a major topics in JEE maths paper. Don’t panic if you are not able to solve a calculus question. Just visualize with tools such as wavey curve or other tools.

Solve as many problems as possible. Don’t go for new concepts at this time. Just work on previous concepts and try to make them as solid as possible. I hope this article will be helpful in your preparation.

J.P.Gaur Address to students turns into a Comedy show….!!

The drama on the deemed university issue continued on thursday. Many universities in India listed as to be removed from deemed status briefed its students to be calm as they are looking into the issue.

Jaypee named in one of the blacklisted universities also briefed its students about the current status of events. But what should have been a serious address of the turn of events it turned out to be a comedy show.

J.P.Gaur was due to address the students about the deemed university issue. But rather he started stating things which had no relation to the current topic. Like in the middle he stated that he would stand in the next general elections and change the world.

He also said that he would make Jaypee college one of the top 50 colleges in the world. And how would he do that, no one knows. Why did he not do anything till now, again no one knows. Why did he have to wait for such a shock, again no one can answer.

He assured students that they would get the Jaypee degree whatever happens. He assured them that he will make sure everything is allright in the next two months.

“Most of the speech was a mere way to silence the protest by students”, said one of the students, “the address had nothing to do with what’s going on. It was more of a comedy show rather a serious business”.

Deemed or Doomed University..??.

As the drama continues to unfold on the issue of deemed universities issue, it is still unclear what the government is trying to do.

The report given by the government on 44 institutes being removed from the deemed university status has come with a great shock in educational circles. Not many could believe that some of the names in the list are there inspite of good infrastructure and faculty.

Some of the colleges like DY Patil, Christ college, Jaypee Noida have good infrastructure and faculty. But alleging family fiefdom their names were put in the list. This resulted in an overreaction from the students who for sometime could not understand what was going on.

Students were angry in these colleges and many colleges saw students indulging in destruction of property rather than trying to understand what is going on. Like in Jaypee Noida students protested by putting on fire various objects. NDTV also came here but were not allowed to enter the premises.

Kapil Sibal said today that the students of these colleges will not suffer but the funda of deemed university would have to go. This statement didn’t come as a surprise as nearly 2 lakh students are currently awaiting their fate to be decided by the HRD minister.

All these colleges called upon their students and explained the state of affairs. The management of these colleges stated the turn of events as mere political. They appealed to the students to continue studying and leave this whole issue to them to resolve.

As time passes we will know for certain what is to happen with these universities. “As of today these universities are deemed but who knows tomorrow it will be doomed”. This was the general reaction of the students of these colleges.

Deemed University Status Removed – What will happen now…??…

On 18th January Center gave a list of 44 colleges to the supreme court regarding removal of deemed university status. This was in response to a PIL filed by Mr.Ballav that most of the colleges run in this country are run on family grounds rather than under a strong academic grounds.

I want to clear some of the misunderstandings in the minds of the students about what will happen now. Will their careers be affected? Or will their placements be affected?

These are some of the first questions that come in mind when you think about this topic. Firstly I was surprised to see the name of some of the prominent universities in the list like Christ College Bangalore, JIIT Noida, DY Patil and more. And also on the exclusion of some of the other universities like Amity.

This list of 44 deemed universities are just an affidavit given to the supreme court by a high power committee. According to law UGC has the right to give deemed university status on the recommendation of MHRD. So the students who are thinking that their college is blacklisted or so are mistaken. This is just an affidavit. This has not become law. So as of now your universities are still deemed universities.

As for placements they will go on as usual. And you don’t have to think about your careers as ruined or so. This is a legal issue and will take atleast 12 months to resolve. So till that time deemed university status is going nowhere.

But as far as the grounds on which these colleges are concerned I definitely think that it was the right decision. Most of the universities are run by family hierarchy rather than by a prevalent academic council. So this decision was on the cards for sometime now. But what mistake they have committed is the names have been given without a proper inspection of the institutes.

It is said that these universities don’t have proper infrastructure and academic faculty. But I don’t think thats the case. Most of these universities have hired some of the best professors in the country as their faculty at very high salaries and they also have a very good infrastructure. So I don’t think this ground was justified.

So students there is no reason to be disheartened. Your careers will not be jeopardised by this decision. Just keep working hard and best of luck.

To look at the names of the universities removed from the deemed status have a look here.

Centre Derecognizes 44 Deemed Universities

The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it has decided to withdraw the “deemed” status to 44 universities in the country alleging these were being run as family fiefdoms rather than on academic considerations.

However, to avoid jeopardising the future of nearly two lakhs students enrolled in these universities spread over 13 states, they would be allowed to revert back as affilated colleges of their original universities, the Centre said in an affidavit.
The affidavit filed by the HRD Ministry said the government has accepted the recommendations made in this regard by the high-powered P N Tandon committee and the Special Task Force set up to suggest measures to tackle the problem.
“The Review Committee came across several aberrations in the functioning of some of the institutions deemed to be universities. It found undesirable management architecture where families rather than professional academics controlled the functioning of institutions,” the affidavit said.
According to the Centre, most of the 44 erring deemed universities were offering post-graduate and undergraduate courses that are “fragmented with concocted nomenclatures” and seats “disporortionately” increased beyond the actual intake capacity.

HOW TO PEPARE FOR YOUR BOARD EXAMINATIONS AND IIT-JEE SIMULTANEOUSLY

These days competition to get admission in a reputed engineering college is really stiff. There is a large number of books available in the market. Students are suggested to study plenty of books, which in my opinion is not possible.

When the students join top quality training institutions for preparation, they are given such a tough lessons from the day one, which only almost 10% students are able to digest, other students just keep carrying with them because they had already paid hefty sums as admission fee. In the months of november and december the pressure of board exainations build up to such an extent that they leave the course in between, throw away the competition material and then look for the ncert and other books prescribed for the board examinations. But they find themselves nowhere. Every year i find a large number of students in this situation.

So i would like to suggest to the students and the parents sincerely, not to run after the coaching institutions blindly. The advertisements of the coaching institutions shows the photographs and names of only the students who have been selected in the good instituions, which in reality is a very very small fraction of their total enrollment. You never comes to know about the failures of other students (which is quite a large fraction of the total enrollment), who otherwise if had studied their board syllabus poperly would have done very very well. This is happeining even to the students who have secured even 80% – 90% marks in their matriculation examinations.

I would like to suggest the following procedure to prepare for your board examinations as well as other competitions simulateously in the subject of physics. First of all todays competition demands regularity and hard work (but only in proper direction). After the board examination of matriculation, start preparing from your Ncert text books. If you find it hard consult other books (I will reccomend Modern’s ABC of Physics or Principles of physics by S. Chand and co.).

Solve Numericals from hc verma, take the help from your teacher or click this link http://physics.2lv.in/blog/H%20C%20Verma%20Physics%20problems%20and%20solutions for solutions. You must follow a rgular exercise of solving at least 10-15 problems daily. When you end up with 5th unit on rotational motion, start studying studyingObjective approach to Physics volume 1 by D.C. Pandey(Arihant Publications), simultaneously with your regular course. It is a really good book. Solve atleast 20 MCQ’s daily.

Keep Fundamentals of physics by Halliday/ Resnick as reference book. If you finish all this in time then start with 31 Years IIT-JEE chaterwise solutions by Mtg (Finish chapters from +1 syllabus i.e. upto waves ). Join any Test series of a reputed institute (e.g. FIIT-JEE or Brilliant Tutorials or Akash). Follow the same schedule in +2 in addition to that start solving problems from Physics spectrum which is a monthly mgazine published by Arihant publications. In this maganzine every month one topic from +1 and other from +2 is thoroughly covered. If You find time before the competition just go through MCQ by D. Mukherjee which is quite a small and very good book.

If You follow this schedule properly you will never find yourself in any pathetic situation and will surely end up by getting admission in any engineering institute of repute. But always remember that there is no alternative to hard work and regulaity.
