Deemed University Status Removed – What will happen now…??…

On 18th January Center gave a list of 44 colleges to the supreme court regarding removal of deemed university status. This was in response to a PIL filed by Mr.Ballav that most of the colleges run in this country are run on family grounds rather than under a strong academic grounds.

I want to clear some of the misunderstandings in the minds of the students about what will happen now. Will their careers be affected? Or will their placements be affected?

These are some of the first questions that come in mind when you think about this topic. Firstly I was surprised to see the name of some of the prominent universities in the list like Christ College Bangalore, JIIT Noida, DY Patil and more. And also on the exclusion of some of the other universities like Amity.

This list of 44 deemed universities are just an affidavit given to the supreme court by a high power committee. According to law UGC has the right to give deemed university status on the recommendation of MHRD. So the students who are thinking that their college is blacklisted or so are mistaken. This is just an affidavit. This has not become law. So as of now your universities are still deemed universities.

As for placements they will go on as usual. And you don’t have to think about your careers as ruined or so. This is a legal issue and will take atleast 12 months to resolve. So till that time deemed university status is going nowhere.

But as far as the grounds on which these colleges are concerned I definitely think that it was the right decision. Most of the universities are run by family hierarchy rather than by a prevalent academic council. So this decision was on the cards for sometime now. But what mistake they have committed is the names have been given without a proper inspection of the institutes.

It is said that these universities don’t have proper infrastructure and academic faculty. But I don’t think thats the case. Most of these universities have hired some of the best professors in the country as their faculty at very high salaries and they also have a very good infrastructure. So I don’t think this ground was justified.

So students there is no reason to be disheartened. Your careers will not be jeopardised by this decision. Just keep working hard and best of luck.

  18. Ravi Kishan says:

Aur Shashank, jinko jyada malum na ho woh jyada na bole to achha hai. Ghatiya University ka naam nahi hai, Jaypee ka naam hai jahan se Google aur Microsoft jaisi companys mein placement hoti hai. Shashank, Just shut up and go and get deemed status for urself first.

  19. Ravi Kishan says:

    All is well…

  20. shashank says:

How could he say that these institutes have the best infrastrructure. Perhaps he knows nothing about engineering or medical colleges or might be he has not seen any one of them. Whatever points were raised regarding deemed universities by the task force r absolutely correct. These coll. hve nthin. Just because they could bribe some of the authorities in UGC doesn’t mean they could have demmed university status endlessly. That;s the right decision and a major one in improving the quality of education.
