SRM UNIVERSITY – CHENNAI
In 1985, the SRM group opened SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur. The deemed university attained the status of a full-fledged university, under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. An upgraded syllabus and international teaching methods, designed by SRM’s International Advisory Board (IAB), which had long been held by administrative constraints, could finally be put into practice. And the saga is just beginning. Whether it’s building a 16-storey IT park or acquiring teaching models from MIT of USA, it’s all happening right here, at SRM University.
SRM University is one of the few universities in the country with an international network of advisors from varsities and industries worldwide. Alliances with University of London, Queen’s University and the Partners International Healthcare (Harvard Teaching Hospitals) give the university an international dimension in terms of knowledge and student exchange programs, as well as joint research.
MY VIEWS ON THIS INSTITUTE:-
SRM CHENNAI is one of the best private colleges in its regions. Apart from the fact that this instiute has a great infrastructure, great faculty, there is a catch.
The catch lies in its selection procedure, i.e. in its entrance tests and counselling method. The entrance tests of SRM according to me is not up to the mark. Even a below average student would easily get enough marks to get a Computer Science Branch. And when i say that i’m not just Joking around.
Apart from that its counselling method also seems faulty to me. With around 1000 seats in just CS branch how can CS close on the very first day of counselling. These were some of the drawbacks i found with this institute.
And also to add to the drawbacks this institute is also not AICTE certified. Now here i’m certainly not joking. Of course its students and faculty would say that their institute is AICTE certified but let me tell you first what is the meaning of AICTE certified colleges.
AICTE certified college means that its has been visited and accredited by the NBA ( National Board of Accredition ). And this can only be done if the institute has just 180 seats per branch. But this one here currently has 1000 seats per branch..!!!…So certainly there is no question of AICTE approval.
Till now i’ve counted its many drawbacks. Now lets have a look at the good ones. This institute is good for all despite the fact that it is  lacking an AICTE certification. And the sole reason is it gives you very good placements. Last year nearly 100 biotech companies visited the campus…!!!…Thats quite a number. And many more other companies too.
Just the fact that this College provides you an excellent placement scores it enough points to negate the many drawbacks. And it also provides its meritorious students to go abroad for one semester to colleges like FLORIDA and CALIFORNIA. So overall i would say a good choice but if you choose this place make sure you have atleast 8 GPA or you are going to face tough time.

yes they have placements….and even if you dont get on campus placement, you can always go in for off campus placements….

hey ! my dad tried to confirm about srm and his close frnd in chennai says it’s blacklisted by the government with some other deemed universities and it’s risky to join as it’s degree may not be as valuable n recognised after 3 – 4 years.
also that they’re just looting people and running a hi-fi institution but actually not worth the money.

honestly, i am not aware of such happenings….SRM chennai did not even appear in the Deemed University controversy that shocked many a Universities….i hope you know about that….even MGR chennai appeared in that list in which it was said to remove the deemed status of such universities…but still I am sorry i can’t help you with this querry…..
as far as i am concerned i can only say this institution is not one of them who will close overnight or loose its stature overnight….

Recently(in 2010) Zee news and DNA agency along with Ipsos(world’s 3rd largest research agency) conducted a survey on the top 20 engineering colleges of india …the link…. http://icse.fairtopic.com/iit-jee-aieee-…
as mentioned in the survey SRM engineering college occupied the 13th spot in the rankings along with the IIt’s and the NIT’s ,but as per the 2009 rankings by the outlook magazine SRM was placed somewhere in the 60′s(2010 survey of outlook magazine is not yet out) ….so strictly speaking is SRM engineering college really a good one ,cause i’ve taken SRMEE 2010 and got a good rank in it and i’ve planned of joining it…..i am unable to count on the survey and it does no include Anna university ,BIT Mesra and many more top colleges in the top 20 ,this makes the survey look bogus…………..so Sir please help me out as this a crucial option i am gonna take about the university i am joining in…………Is SRM that really good and is it worthy about being placed at the 13th spot in the 2010 rankings ??????……answer to all my questions ..please!

no way….this is completely fake….SRM is good but not that good to appear along with IITs….SRM does not even appear in top 50 colleges in India leave alone top 15……

dont get worried just because students are taking admission via management quota….just remember you are there because of merit…dont care about other….at the end of the day you will be the real winner….

SRM is certainly worth going…see i don’t really advise on waiting a year for some particular college….if you get a good college, take it…..

see all these 3 colleges are good…..placements are good everywhere….but manipal is good among them according to placement and infra…..vit and srm are all on the same level comparing on diff scales…..srm i would say is bit better in placements….vit a bit better in infra…..
I am a passed out student from srm university.
i would like to clarify one thing that aicte approval is not required by a university.when it comes to university check for whether its approved by ugc and mhrd.AICTE is not a mandate for univs .Then comin to 1000 students per branch. its an exagerration. CSE batch strength in main campus is 252 for my batch. It keeps varying but nt more than 300.
comin to plus points sited never in the history of SRM 100 biotech companies visited the campus.to my knowledge 2 or 3 biotech companies mite have visited.but the total no. of companies is higher compared to other universities .Even in this tym of recession SRM has placed more 1200 students of the total 1600 odd eligible students. So placements are damn gud here. Even the infrastructure and research opportunities are very good. college will fund u for ur research projects. They are doin their best to support the students in tht area.
and yea the admission procedure has a lot of loopholes.reg semester abroad prog its not only based on merit u shld be able to afford for the college will fund u partially only

I am getting admission in sri sairam engg coll {ssec}( affialiated to anna univ, chennai). now what i want to know is whether i should shift or stay put here.. the present coll in which i am studying is not aicte approved…….. this was started only in 2006 and not even 1 batch has passed out..but ssce is aicte approved as well as NBA accredited…. hence i am confused whether to shift or not………. do reply……..

yes degree will be the same…..i have told you earlier not to worry so much about the college…..its a superlative thing…..what matters is what you make of the thing you have in hand rather than worrying about the things you dont have…..
so dont give such emphasis on college…..just remember what i have said…..and i hope you will not ask this question again…..

you are welcome always….the average package of ece is around 3.2 lakhs…..but don’t be discouraged….people get more depending on how they perform in their interview…..

no one in the placement panel will ask you which campus you are from…..every company holds its own tests….students from all campuses sit and take the test…..so students that are selected dont have to tell which campus they are from…..
campus thing is mentioned on the degree…..but it doesn’t matter…..i don’t think anyone asks you now which school you are from…..so dont worry about the campus…..

GPA is the most important thing when you get in college…..most people want to go in the main campus because it has got a good lifestyle…..

faculty there is good and placement is also above par…..so dont worry…..concentrate on your studies…..get a GPA of 8 or above…..and placement will come to you…..

no when i say you should not do it from here or there, there are many factors…..why dont you also see the 4 years you are going to spend at a place….if two universities have good placements and are equal in all aspects then why not also see the quality of life that you will spend next 4 years of your life….

I am geting it in IP’s college called Guru Teg Bahadur Institute Tech , it is full of sikh minority they have 420 seats and only 120 are for general.

i think that you should rather stay where you are…..SRM modinagar will give you a good starting placement ofcourse but this college will give you a good long term prospect…..

it is because main campus provides somewhat better lifestyle…..this is just a misconception with people that main campus is always better than other campuses…..everything is mixed…..companies wont even ask which campus u r from…..

1000 seats are available…..not filed on the first day…..some seats are opened everyday….so even on the 3rd day you can get computer science…..

manipal is better than SRM in some aspects but SRM scores above manipal in some other…..but overall i would say manipal is better choice…..
